Found some good materials for the grip. Added imprint details. Next is adding in the little details I forgot to bake in, the ridges on the curve of the trigger guard and the slide-lock, then onto the scritch-scratches and wear and tear details.
One thing that you should avoid when doing the high poly are razor sharp edges. Notice the slide for example. Basically every noticeable angle should be beveled so that it catches light properly.

Seconding slightly softening and/or beveling the hard edges. Do you have Zbrush at all? The Polish operations should help expedite processing the HP for slightly softer edges.

Painting in details for the mag. This part isn't fully accurate as far as the modelling goes, but I'm going to leave it as is. I think tomorrow I'll do one more look over for details, then make the .380 rounds, and then onto rendering in Marmoset.
I was about to be like "this thing is way to thin" but after looking up a ref picture...wow that thing is tiny. I guess the only glaring issue I have with it, and I sure you know it, Is the painted black metal+wear could be pushed a lot more. If it weren't for the logo/letters/numbers, which appear quite on point, I'm not even sure id know its metal, an the wear kinda looks more like smeared silver paint. I wish I could tell you exactly how but I suck at texturing. But I'm sure you could find a tutorial some where on making some realistic painted metal surfaces. I'm assuming you're using substance painter?

Yes, I used Painter. However, creating a material would be done in Substance Designer, which is what makes the materials you see being used in Painter. It's a whole other ball game (node based and mathematical). I believe the reason the metal is hard to read in these shots is because the lighting is rather faulty (again, I'm not the greatest), along with the camera angle, etc. If I move some light around, take away the slide and all the rest, you can see the barrel in all its metallic glory. But, your feedback does raise a good point about needing to highlight more of the surfaces, so it's much appreciated.
Actually the tube portion of your barrel doesn't look too bad at all, I had been looking at the magazine at the time of commenting so assumed all the pieces were grouped as one texture. The block portion of the barrel though the wear on it seems a bit funky to me.

Hmm, I may have OD'ed on the wear for that part a little.
The tutorial zio linked above is the one he directed me to when i first posted my crappy model lol, even though i use blender vs 3ds max I learned a lot from it. granted I scrapped my last model before getting to the substance painter portion, if that section is as good as the parts I've seen it'll give you a whole lot of information on how to make great textures.

I recommend these tutorials to check out workflows for texturing and creating materials in painter:
