Got the mail notification. Thx for that! Imo that's still a fair move and something completely different compared to what - for instance - unity pulled off..
More money to waste... so the initial investment for perpetual is gone :S... yea... SP have a big team giving support etc so the development will probably never be compared to an open-source app. But... things change. There's a few options out there. If the majority of people switch and support an open-source app (or freeware)…, I'm pretty sure the developers can increase the team size and get sooner or later to a fair level where you can compare it to a proprietary cash cow company. I use the creative cloud but only for Photoshop and video apps... just remember how long it took Adobe to implement symmetry mode and still is not compatible with the mixer brush yet :S I hope my expectations are wrong, but I'm tired of subscription base softwares... even Marvelous is switching to the same model... -,-
Here a few options:

I've come to a conclusion of getting this new SP 2021 when it comes out. So, I can simply buy the permanent license through Steam, right? And get all the updates to that version through the year 2021, and partially 2022?
At the moment my newest SP is 2018.3.3. It's great, but I bet 2021 is vastly better (performance, stability and new tools), and I'm really interested in UDIMs and the ability to paint over different UDIMs.
Yes, the 2021 version will be available for purchase on Steam in a month or so. That will give you updates through 2021 and typically a bit more as we keep releasing bugfixes through the beginning of the year after.

Allowing users to buy materials from Source is not planned at the moment.
