Hello, I am a student studying to be a 3d artist. I know my portfolio Isnt the best and that was mostly school projects so over the summer i plan on making some nice pieces and build my modeling confidence. I have an idea for a modified Sherman "what if" tank and im laying some groundwork and slowly chipping at it.
The only thing i really want to show now is the muzzle break ive been working on. This is the first time im sharing anything like this in a public forum and taking feedback from strangers is a challenge that im working to improve upon. Its also daunting for me to show stuff like this compared to the amazing stuff everyone else posts.
This is 3ds max which i prefer for modeling.
Thank you.
Edit: I think i understand how this works now so ill treat this as my sketchbook for my tank project.

Okay looked a little off and lumpy
Okay Added relax modifiers helps a bit
Still need to add the hatch hinge and maybe a handle of sorts.
Finished commanders hatch with Spherify it to make it look more round and making the Hinge. as well as making the visors more square.
Secondary i think would either be the gunner or loader hatch
Guide wheel and bolts
Getting the main barrel and mantle and the wheels worked on. You may notice this Sherman looks a bit different. I wanted to make a what if tank destroyer version of the Sherman based on some model conversions i saw.
Something useful i learned is there is a select by number type thing under the selection tab for finding tri's and Ngons
Spent a couple days hammering out what i learned is called Horizontal Volute Spring System on the later models of shermans. Im happy with the level of detail i havnt quite been able to achieve before
Okay I can know upload pictures again. So i couldnt get path deform to work properly on the tracks so i ended up laying the tacks by hand. Also turned alot of the smoothing down because my laptop is struggling but its now more manageable. Though i think im gonna need a better laptop sooner or later.
Been a while since i posted. My only concern is that im already at almost 3 million polygons and i know ill get it down when i go back to make low poly version to bake over but is it common to have something be so high poly at first for builds like this?
But otherwise this is more or less my vision of this tank and im looking forward to texturing it.
Finished modeling and im moving on to Low poly then unwrap
