I have "mesh maps" (AO, normals etc) imported, and placed inside of "Texture Set Settings -> Meshmap".
Now when i change them externally, i reload every single meshmap by hand via right click -> reload", and THAN i have to drop them manually into the slot, so SP know something has changed.

Is this a bug, or is there a better way to do this (semi-)automatically?

You can user the resource updater plugin (should be in your left toolbar by default). This will allow you to easily update any outdated resource, including mesh maps.
