As part of a class I'm following Tyson Murphy's magnum opus hand painted texture tutorial, but wanted to give it a funky spin so it's not just the usual sword and shield flooding the message boards. Say hello to the beginnings of what I hope will be an epic breakfast set instead!

That's not the best of screenshots... but you can see the original concept art on the image plane, and where I'm at so far with some modeling/uving. I'll post a MUUUUCH better shot once I'm done UVing and have everything dressed! Hopefully you can tell that I'm going for a spoon and a cereal bowl instead of the sword and shield. I'm modeling trying to keep the same elements carried over and will be texturing pretty close to the concept art.
Hand painted texturing is hard, I tend to overthink and get way too bogged down with details so as I post more please please please feel free to comment/critique/ridicule when needed! Thanks all, and happy arting!

Progress today! Left is in Maya unlit, right is texture painting. I'm noticing my modeling of the gold pieces isn't helping me out much, I'm losing all the painting happening in the overlapping areas. I'll see if I can fix that up some! Any comments or critiques as I work through these textures are both welcome and appreciated
Remember your color transitions in the gold, use reference and just keep going. Use those circle chip details more sparingly. try not to over-blend. make some confident strokes and move on, come back to that area in 5 minutes once your eyes forget about it. (that's a personal trick of mine).
most important: finish the project.
