I am getting familiar with CG industry as a whole. I would like to know if there is some difference working between these two industries? Does technology is the same when someone wants to go from Gaming to VFX or vise versa?  Or, someone have to re-learn how to do stuff? Which one is more stable, to get more full time job?
How about the working hours? Are people work extended period of crunch time?

Choice of location is a difference for starters. Game studios can be found all over but for film there's really only a handful of cities to pick from and they are not the budget-friendly kind. There's also a lot of job-hopping going on in film.

Some of the technologies have overlap (PBR based rendering is the universal standard) but the goals are vastly different.

Video games HAVE to run in real time. Ideally 30 to 60 frames per second. This requires creating assets that meet specific polygon/texture count quotas.

VFX uses behemoth super computers to render out images that take hours at a time. Assets tend to be far more denser or require more attention (given they are going to be blown up on the big movie screen).

Ideally, go for the industry you would rather enjoy working in, rather then get bogged down by tech numbers.
