Hey guys, first time participating in one of these so I don't feel right critiquing anyone's work. Lots of inspiring stuff for hard surface prop category! Gotta catch up.
I think I'm satisfied with my proportions for the base after a few iterations:
butttt I think i'll make the sides a little lower...
Here's my messy wireframe for anyone struggling with getting started like I was:
plz ignore the current textures.
Thanks to the kind people that took some time to help me on the polycount discord
I did a render in Unity as well and it's okay.... I'd love to add light and smoke coming from the flares, but dammit Jim, I'm a modeler, not a tech artist! Maybe I'll play around after I go to SIEGE in Atlanta....
You have inverted normals on this piece, probably was mirrored somehow.
Generally I think there's a lot room for improvements, cuts on the plate are barely visible, could be wider and have softer edges, the material looks very generic, lacks details, especially on the backside.
It's kinda strange, I checked other models of yours and they seem to be much better quality than this one in every aspect - modeling, texturing and rendering, I'd totaly say that it was done by someone else or you were in a really big hurry

Yeah, that's actually it. I was in a major hurry the past few days. Not much more that can be said on that front. The flipped normals threw me off since other items were instances and didn't seem to have this problem.
Hey all! Here is an update of the battery box model. I finished up the HP tonight. More soon! I'll add in some little height details when I start the texture.
@riceart Great to see someone else doing the handpainted stuff. It's a really cool concept.
Here's my part of the owl column. I'm not happy with the shape of the owl; I think it really needs to be fatter and stockier. I also wanna work on the texture of the column to make it more stone-like but this is my first foray into 3d coat so still learning.
Managed to finish the scene this weekend, might have wanted to spend some more time on it but it might be better that I set the goal to be done with it today so that I could work on some other stuff starting tomorrow. Good luck to everyone else still working on their scenes! @riceart nice work so far on that handpainted scene , love those colors.
alright did take a bit break to make a prop for my portfolio there are few things that i need to take a look at and it would be great if you guys could give me some feedback as well
I decided to release my Ultimate Rock Smart Material Pack today. It includes 9 smart materials for texturing various kinds of rocks in Substance Painter. I've created 8 scenes in UE4 over the course of two days using these smart materials. Please check it out: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/0XYRme
alright did take a bit break to make a prop for my portfolio there are few things that i need to take a look at and it would be great if you guys could give me some feedback as well I think something that would help a lot is if you separated the elements better into foreground middleground and background, make some taller dunes in the background and maybe use the fog to separate the tower from the flag and barrels so that the scene gives a better idea of depth, right now it looks like one big dune.
Okay. So I fixed my lighting and skybox. But i am having issues with my material blending for my sand texture. I need to throw in a few rocks and get my wires in before I am totally done.
@riceart Very nice block out! I'm curious to see where it goes.
I currently have reworked the camera and added in some missing pieces to get that look. Materials will be adjusted in the following week along with the lighting. But for now, I'm liking where this is going.
I plan to do the small radar dish (and make maybe a small diorama out of it) and have problem with the size/shape/function of the lower part. Does anyone found real world reference for such an mechanism? How does it work? Will it all fold together of is some assembly needed (only for the lower "table"). So far I blocked out the table but the legs are simply to big to be able to fold under the main part (without overlapping each other)
Hi guys. Not been present in the thread because I've been trying to focus on the work. Anyway - just posting a screenshot for now, so that I get something in on the last day of the month, but I'll be uploading in-game footage, a breakdown of a few of the assets, a lot more screenshots and maybe a few more things over the next few days (mainly to my ArtStation, but will obviously link here). Anyhow - here's the view from the FirstPerson level start viewpoint... more to follow. Cheers, B.
By the way if there's anything in the scene that anyone wants a particularly close look at, let me know because as I said I'm quite keen to provide some breakdown of my work which is something I've not done before. The environment is a fairly complete level, set within a 2km World Machine landscape. (Here are a couple of overview screenshots for now, but I'll be providing a much more in-depth look in the coming days).
Thank you very much B_P_L. I wrapped everything and finally thrown something to my artstation. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/RYYbLe And btw, realistic pbr stuff aint for me but your work looks amazing.
Hi again. Finally got my collision and navigation working just about how I want it to - it's not totally smooth but it's working ok. So here's my last little run-through of the level before totally finalising everything. Again the video is pretty quick; no stopping and looking around just yet because I'm hopefully going to produce some nice cinematic clips with more lingering camera movement. So, I'd really really welcome some (any!) lastthoughts and feedback from the community before getting on with the post-mortem. Regards, B.
You Guys 'n Gals continue to impress Some amazing effort put in these past few months! As always, feel free to post in this and any other Challenge thread with updates to your work as you have time.
As for now - believe it or not we're already to the last Challenge of 2018! Head on over and I hope to see all of your great work on these excellent concepts this round:
Hi, here's a cinematic I put together complete with music etc. Probably my last post in the thread as it's gone quite quiet unfortunately. Anyhow - if you've any thoughts please let me hear them. Thanks, B. <edit> Moved content to Vimeo and improved video compression as well as slightly altered a couple of shots.

I think I'm calling the satellite part done. I'm going to move on to the battery that I've been neglecting for a while.
This is rendered in SP until I finish, then I'll render in UE4.
I'll add in some little height details when I start the texture.

Been a long time since I tackled any personal work so I'll be giving this a shot. My progress on the plants for the handpainted concept.

A quick reminder that the Concept Thread for the next challenge is up if you would like to vote/contribute your own concepts for November/December:

Just did a quick blockout of the scene.

More progress coming soon.
More work for today
The only thing that I feel is missing is some of the foreground foliage.
Super excited to see what you do with it!
I just finished up the "stylized" version of the satellite dish. Here is a recap of both versions. Let me know what you think!
Original submission
New: Stylized version
I will begin my personal post mortum on this piece so I can add what I've learned so far.
Cheers, B.
