Hey y'all! Been a while since I posted a project. I'm working on my final for the first term with Think Tank. The goal is to create one badass render using the techniques and software we have learned over the past few months. That being said, I am trying to get it as optimized as possible so it can be presented in Marmoset when I'm done. Anyways, I chose this piece by
João Henrique PachêcoI'm 1 week in with 4 weeks and a lot of work to go but I'm happy with it so far. This has been my first time working Medium Poly and I'm in love.

that's awesome. Thanks there's so much detail. One thing I noticed is that the tip of the lava lamp looks smaller than the original picture. I'm not sure if you did that on purpose.
Edit.. cant seem to upload photos right now so here's a link to my blog - https://www.artstation.com/crawlspace/blog/8rAj/week-13-final-project-wip-update-2

Working further on the characters texturing and lighting. Submission is in a week so feedback is very appreciated!
The other thing that stands out to me is that your scene reads a bit noisy compared to the concept. Take a close look at the values. The artist is using the high values of the floor, character faces and a few background elements (monitor, peg board) to frame the mech and create good flow through the composition of the concept. The mech is actually a darker in your scene than it is in the concept art. Try boosting the lightness and lowering the saturation of the green paint (do you have any cards above the scene to create reflections?). Everything outside the lit area of the concept are capped at about 50% brightness while the lit area has a wider range (15% - 85% approx.).
A few other random thoughts... reducing / removing the high frequency detail in the floor and pegboard (maybe try cork board instead?) will help create areas of rest in the scene, which will make all those details more rewarding.
Nice work so far and good luck finishing the scene!
//edit: I should also mention that I used the render from Sept 3rd for the value comparison...

Throughout the week I might make small edits (probably only in Photoshop) and I'll get a full page up on my portfolio.
Thank you again Polycount community, y'all helped me make my best work yet.
