Zbrush noob question (cutting geo or repair holes)

Hi everybody! Im very new to zbrush and im having some problems with the move from regular 3d modeling kits (Maya) to Zbrush. So my problem is that i want to make this mouth piece (that i masked out from the original model) and give it proper edges and back.



Ive tried to use "clip curve", it looks nasty. Ive tried to dynamesh together the piece (for cutting up later), it doesnt dynamesh the way i want =). So i need some proper help. What is the best solutions when things like this comes up because i do want to mask out pieces of the helmet and work on them in different subtools etc
