Hello! We're creating a action/adventure RPG of space combat and exploration. The game is viewed in a top-down 3D perspective and both player and NPC ships are built out of modular components laid out in a hexagonal grid.

We are looking for a 3D artist to create the modules for these ships. There are approximately 15-18 base module types, with some modules having "level" variants for a likely total of 30-40 modules. Different races in the game will use primarily the same set of models, with different textures/colorings to differentiate.

Note that the modules will only be viewed from a top-down perspective and at a fairly low-level of detail; modules never occupy more than 70x70 pixels of screen space and in most cases are smaller than 20x20 pixels.

Examples for context. Note that first two are examples to show the context the modules will appear in, not examples of what we are looking for. The third is programmer-art showing the general shape of modules:

Additional details:
  • The game is being developed in Unity, experience with Unity is preferred but not required
  • Modules needs to be textured such that they can easily be altered to represent other races by adjusting one or two texture layers/colors
Typically, when working with new artists, we like to start with a trial subset of the full project to see if the artist understands the project goals and can deliver what we're looking. In this case it would probably be 1-3 modules with extra iterations to define the style.

If you believe you are a good fit, please contact us with the following:
  • Your info, including a link to your portfolio;
  • A ballpark estimate for time/cost for the total project and the trial subset described above (if you have additional questions necessary to give an estimate, please include in your message).
Thank you for your time and application!
