Maya's Inaccurate pointer

Has anyone else noticed how inaccurate the pointer is in Maya?  For instance you point your mouse at an edge, and it instead highlights and selects an edge next to it.  Or how when you use the target weld tool, it drags a vert into a different vert than the one you're aiming at?  I've experienced this on 2 different work computers(different jobs) as well as 2 different home computers, and on multiple versions(currently using 2018).  Anyone know if there is a fix for this?

assuming you mean it doesn't select the thing under the pointy bit of the cursor,  that's just how maya is and has been forever.

    you get used to it

There is a setting in the Maya preferences that defines the accuracy of your mouse selection.  Having said that, whenever I've modified the  Click box size value to something lower for more precision, I find myself frustrated later because I'm forced to be way more precise with my mouse selection.
Creating a couple of shelf buttons with mel commands with different preset values might be a good workaround so you could quickly set the Click Box Size depending on whether you were zoomed in on something or looking at it at distance.

This probably isn't a "solve" for your problem, but I hope it at least gives you some options to play with.
    cheers!

It's never bugged me enough to change it, but it's a cursor problem. One could fix it with Resource Hacker or something similar. It does get annoying in a couple of contextual cursor swaps, some of them are pretty bad.

IIRC a lot of cursor innacuracy comes from view port resizing. Try avoid doing it if possible, or if it happens close and re-open it. I could also be completely wrong.

That said, latest versions of Maya have tried to fix this a lot, especially regarding tools like target weld vertex.
