Maya Lighting: Star Wars Hangar bay

Hi guys I ran into a problem today that I can't get fixed. I guess its more a fault of my own and I hope maybe some of you can help me out.
So I started on a SW Hangar bay project about a month ago and I'm now lighting it but I can't get it to look good. I've attached an image of a presentation of john knoll in wich he showed a recreation of the death star hangar, that is the look I'm going for but I can't seem to get it as you can see in the other image of my own work. Can someone please help me with this?
