Starting work on a class project, where I was allowed to pick pretty much whatever I wanted to make a game ready 3D asset of. So of course I chose something from Blade Runner :S I have my rudimentary process pics (hello, 3DS max screenshots!) right below, and the reference I used below that. sculpting out the barrel of the gun, trying to get the shape language of that partially cut out sphere across.
kind of placeholder-y rivets for later on in the model- I find it a lot easier to make a "kit" of sorts for all the tiny details to attach and bake on later as a normal map.

Take a look at these for breakdowns on how to construct it. There are plenty of extreme closeups, discussions on how it was machined, etc.
So, it's "done"- at least in terms of the project for class. I'm definitely going to revisit the sculpt (when I imported the model to Substance painter some very strange artifacts showed up and the geometry looked frankly nauseating in some spots), but despite all the things that went wrong I think it went alright.
