Here were my intial concepts. I came up with a couple ideas and started sketching. I found that I couldn't really get much from the Blood Witch idea, but I really liked working on the Black Ice and Cola Pop Nami, although I really like the Cola Pop Nami more with a 1970s milkshake bar feel
As I thought more on how I would enjoy making my work, I wanted to do something fun and colorful. I thought of how vibrant and fun the Arcade Miss Fortune and Star Guardian skins are. I decided to go for a 1950s style soda bar feel with colorful soda and whipped cream.
I had a lot of fun drawing these compositions. Since I'm aiming for a more bright colorful piece, I might try and do contrasting with color and saturation. Was wondering if I needed to worry about the contrast in value then...
In this update, I added much more detail. i changed the position of the tail. I added a lot more shadow to create more depth. Although I'm debating the grape soda in the bottom left...
Just a smalll update. I spent most of my time recently just working on the bottle of grape soda in the bottom left to get it right. I added more saturation to the soda pool as well as things are a bit too unsaturated. Going to start bumping some hues up
After the last post, I asked some peers to help give additional feedback. I ended up having an issue with the image reading well with some not knowing what some of the items are, noting the pose was hard to tell what was going on especially with her left arm, and many were having a hard time seeing this was nami. So I ended up redoing the image. I increased Nami's size and moved some stuff around so I could include more of her mermaid form. Let me know what you think!
Another update on my WIP for Cola Pop Nami! I blocked in some more colors and kind of got carried away with some details. Got to learn to block everything in. But I added more shading to Nami's face to create more depth and added more detail to the surrounding items as well as created more value in the soda.
Here's probably the final update before the deadline ends. Sadly couldn't finish in time, but I'm glad I got to add enough details in to mean simulate something. I'll continue working on this after and get it posted on my portfolio
I went and added bubbles to the surface to add more context to what is happening as well as give a can to rest her tail on. Hopefully, that reads ok. I enlarged the ice and worked on her stomach area more. I plan to desaturate the cherry and work on the whipped cream. Make the hair more of a whipped cream like shape, per the suggestion of a friend, and make the ice pop more. Also due to the huge amount of negative space in the top right, I'm going to add a spoon which was also a suggestion by the same person.
