Currently there's 2D art, i'll probably get to posting 3d soon : >
I must say it's one of the more confusing platforms to me - recently I've met many artists who say instagram is an awesome tool for promotion but I'm not really sure how they approach it.
It's true that with proper tags you can get people to see your stuff and like it, but not many of those care enough to become followers?

my views on IG are it should be the place people are documenting their journey/process and artstation should be where your portfolio lives. one of the most important aspects of both is they are mobile friendly and allow you to build an audience. For anyone thinking of launching a gumroad tutorial or resource pack and actually want it to make money, this is super important for both ArtStation and Insta.
Those artists who realize it's 2018 and you need to think of yourself as a media company + start building up audiences on major relevant platforms will be the ones who have way more job options and extra side income. The thing is, building that audience up takes time, years usually, but its actually pretty fun if its based around something you love like game art Spend a couple hours learning how hashtags work on Instagram and how to rank on them to grow your account (use 25-27 relevant ones max and put them in the first comment not the image post etc) there is a ton of great content on youtube about it.
I love seeing new art all the time so Ill go through and smash that follow button on all you art gangsters
edit: If anyone is interested in starting a DM group on insta to help each other grow that could be cool too. just hit me up and I will add people in. For those unfamiliar: basically, instagram ranks your post based on the first hour's worth of likes and comments, with a dm group its basically a private message group chat in the instagram DM that whenever someone posts something, they drop a message in there and all the members go drop a like and comment asap, and then when they post, you do the same to help them back.
This can come in handy for ranking on larger hashtags like say....3dart (635k posts) or 3dsmax (580k posts), whatever relevant ones you want to use and have a lot of people actually see your work. which in turn pushes you up in the discover page and larger general hashtags like ArtistsOfInstagram (3.3m posts). without decent engagement, even if you are using those hashtags, no one will actually see the post because of how many are tagged with it every minute. Yes I know its an annoying social media game, but for those looking to grow efficiently, its pretty much the standard way of operating on the platform.
Joining in the conversation is key. it's "social" media after all. give give give and others will start to follow you. for example: I have been searching for game art students and leaving feedback and critiques on insta. when most of the comments are simple or bots saying :nice work. it makes a big difference when they see the notification and read a paragraph long, actually relevant comments. 9/10 times that person will happily follow me back based on the value I have brought to them already. never underestimate how spending 30 seconds to show a random person you care can pay you back over time. those people will likely become rabid fans of your work and actively share it with others for you.
as for hastags and stuff this youtube channel is pretty dope, there was a TON of stuff i didn't know about how IG actually works i learned from it. Ok enough spamming of this thread by me XD
