I apologize if I've posted this in the wrong section.

Here's my question:

I'm trying to add sharper details for decals placed on models without having to create bigger uvs for just that area.

Here is an example of a tv model I'm working on:

I want to be able to have a sharper logo image for the bottom silver part which has the LG logo ( the long vertical piece to the left) and also sharper details for the input/output labels on the back of the tv.

The only way I know of for doing this is to make the uv shells for those particular areas much bigger. Only problem is that would make the resolutions of the base textures underneath the decals disproportionate to the surrounding areas that have the same base texture and also use up more uv & texture space which are better suited for areas that require more texture space.

Any suggestions? I'm sure this is a very typical problem.

You could use tiny polygons floating ontop of the actual geometry, and use them as decals. This way they can have much better resolution without a need to increase the res of the actual textures.
