Hello! (First time posting so I hope there aren't any mistakes!)
So I'm just about to start learning 3D animation, and I wanted to know if it's possible to do textures in Blender (for models made with it) without needing photoshop or any other program?

For future reference though, you're unlikely to get very far without learning to search. For instance, this is on the first page of a 'blender texturing' search on Polycount: http://polycount.com/discussion/187486/league-of-legends-tristana-dragon-handpainted-texturing-in-blender
I found this on google: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7ALfRw6I5I
Additionally there are a ton of interesting texturing addons, like the recent bpainter.
I can only second that.
You will stumble over much more complicated issues down the road.
Without doing either of these, if you just save your scene and leave Blender then any changes you made to the image during that scene, like painting on it, will be lost. When you open the scene again the image will be blank with its default colour (or how it was when you last packed it internally or saved as PNG).
Don't ignore this, it really sucks when it happens.
If you want to edit the flat texture with an image editor you can use something like Krita or Photoshop. You keep Blender and your image editor open, use the editor to make some changes, save the image and reload the image in Blender.
