In the high foliage surrounding the nearby swamps of Ecor-117, there lurks a predator that methodically hunts its prey. With the ability to stand perfectly still for days, this creature will slowly surround an area frequented by other animals. Armed with pincers, grab hooks, camouflage, and a poisonous sting that can instantly paralyze, it will attack with ferocity and without warning. Scientists stay clear of these swamps so that the natural order of things is not disturbed.
I've been taking Aaron Sims' masterclass on the Story & Soul of Iconic Creature Design. I learned a ton not just with research, but how to approach creatures and characters from a story standpoint. Huge thanks to Arthur Rodriguez and Ben Erdt for giving me awesome tips along the way.
This character is called Thaku, an older and hardened warrior in charge of bringing in new recruits for war. The design idea behind him was about fungus and trying to imagine his home planet as a lush, jungle-covered world.
Here are architectural prop concepts I did a while back for a game that was unfortunately canceled. I had a lot of fun designing little things for the world though.
This creature was recently discovered attacking the livestock in a remote village. It is believed to be from a nearby cave system. After claiming its first human victim, a hunting party has been formed to take it down.
Exploring plant life for my personal project: Ecor-117. I wanted these plants to serve a purpose other than to just occupy the land. They're vital to sustaining a healthy society not just to the indigenous population but animals as well.
Throughout the months, I was posting pages from my Faces of Nature series. Here they are together. I would really like to do either insects or maybe nocturnal creatures next.

Alright everyone I am revisiting the Barbajar to make the design more appealing. Here's the progress shot.
