Hey there, I'm learning maya as well. Started a lil bit longer then a week ago. The main-form isn't that hard to model... I would start with a simple cube and apply a smooth. It will result in a sphere with 4 poles at the corners. Poles are necessary for understanding and directing edgeflow. The sphere with 4 poles will be you starting point for pushing and pulling out your form.
I just started learning maya but I've been modelling in max for little over 10 years. If anyone knows any workflow enhancing tools for maya, please let us know.
Hi @dimdim, what have you done so far and what is the problem you're facing?
i just started the model and the first thing i wanted to start with is the main shap of the helicopter but from no where i had hard time making the base (the main base of the heli, check the pic)

Ok so I'd suggest starting with some basic modeling tutorials like this one, sounds like you're stuck getting started? Learn to break down shapes into something manageable and use many, many reference pictures. This body is mostly a box with a wedged front and the back has a bit of an angle to it. The front looks perhaps too difficult if this is your first time working in 3d, I suggest looking for something simpler to create.
