@Caiterade Looking great I like how the hi poly is coming along. Glad you've been posting a lot of updates. Any idea how you are handling the moss/grass on the cover? I haven't put much thought into it yet.
I think the best approach is to create the basic 'shape'. I'm making the mass of the moss but painting in the details. I'll pop in the flowers but i think moss has such tiny fine details that if i were to sculpt it in it would a) take ages and b) be too concentrated with details for the stylization. The concept's pretty loose on the details so i'm gonna stay loose. Maybe that would be best. You can always run the painted details through crazy bump and add in some subtle normals that way.
Not a whole heck of a lot of progress - i was abroad for a month. Trying my best to finish the sculpt by tomorro
Hi, everybody! Still far from the end but let it be here for
a heap)
By the way
I have made some investigation about how this handgun can work. I think this is
an examle of a black powder revolver. It should be loaded with separeted
ammunition: spherical lead bullet, a wad and a portion of black powder.
Here is the finished model for the satyr book. I did have the face rigged but couldn't export the animations correcly for Marmoset or Sketchfab. The eyes kept popping in the viewers but not in maya. I will update later when I get it to work. I also have the model on artstation with the marmoset viewer. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/a441L
@annah847 thanks I was trying to get it very close to the concept though a lot of ornamental stuff was hard to distinguish. @OsmanAG I actually thought quite a bit about how to adapt the design to make it functional but in the end it seemed like it would need quite a few adjustments and smaller details that seemed to much for me currently. Add to that my lack of knowledge of how actual revolvers work and that lead me to just stick to the concept for this one. So my version is sadly not as functional.
And here's my texture and lighting attempt. I still struggle a lot with both but I think this first version turned out pretty alright. I might make some more changes but I'm just gonna post this as my finished version before even more time passes.
I tried to capture the colour variation in the metal from the concept but I feel like I might have went overboard with it. Had problems hitting that middleground between too crazy and too bland.
I used 3D Coat to do all of the sculpting. For the flowers and foliage specifically, I used voxel mode along with alphas I made for a little shrub and a little flower. I started a new layer and just started stamping greenery all over the surface of the book cover until it was built up high enough to look kinda full. After that, and in the same voxel layer, I used the flower alpha I made to stamp out flowers where it looked like they belonged. If this had been done in a new layer, they flower petals would clip through parts of the foliage and look really weird.
So yeah, I basically just made some alphas in 3D-Coat and went to town on the surface. (Hopefully it bakes out alright)
@zhixson Awesome work! Great attention to detail, and really well thought artistic additions for the back and spine. Can't wait to see it baked/textured. Oh! and 3DCoat for the win! Program is nothing short of awesome. Needs to get more attention in the community.
Decided to do the pistol for this month's challenge but I took a few extra days to finish it up. I used this to learn a few new techniques and had a great time working through it. Now it's time to figure out what to do for the next one July/August challenge! It's great to see everyone's submissions, some awesome work here.
For software I used, MODO, Zbrush, Substance Painter, and Marmoset 3.
I sure did take my time with this. I finished it with pretty much the substance painter basics. I'm gonna have to keep looking for a more stylized approach to Substance in the future. Marmoset Viewer on my ArtStation
Nice work everyone. I started a lot later than everyone else, like 2 weeks before the challenge ended but this is what I have so far. I did stray a bit from the original concept. I have done a different lighting setup from the concept as well which I made more of a space/nebula sky. Still an ongoing process.

See you guys at the next challenge!
Hope to get a low poly done and painted by the end of the weekend.
Wow, thank you very much!

Okidoke, time to move on to next month's challenge. Hopefully that'll get done in a more timely manner.
