I need a few areas of my model to be immune to sculpting as I work in Zbrush. Is there a way to permanently mask areas? I still need to mask/unmask the rest of my model as I work.
Thanks for the quick replies. The area circled in blue shouldn't be sculpt-able. It has to stay where it is, although everything outside of it can be sculpted. I need to use Masks on the rest of the model...so I'm worried that if I simply mask this area, as soon as I clear masks it will have to be masked again and again. Is there a way to mask an area once (or at least the effect of a mask) and have it stay masked no matter what?
yup, Use a polygroup so you can hide and easily mask that area. Also set a morph target in its default state so you can use the morph brush and "erase" back to the original state should you affect that area.
if you dont wanna use polygroups, which would make a hard edge: you can duplicate the entire mesh, sculpt as you want on the copy and then just re-project that part back to the original shape using a mask.
Thanks guys, these are all great ideas. I'll let you know how I get on. Also, I love the Multicut tool in Maya. Is there a ZModeler equivalent to that tool?
