MODO | Polygon Bevel:
Shift and Inset Random Value Range
This short video looks at the Random Value Range options for
the Polygon Bevel tool in MODO. The Random Value Range input fields for the Polygon
Bevel tool are often overlooked and misunderstood. Without a clear
understanding of these options, they can wreak havoc on the Polygon Bevel tool
and have been a cause of many artist's frustrations.
This video is a quick introduction to the UV Rectangle command in MODO.
The Rectangle command straightens quadrangle selections of UVs into
rectangular sections and can greatly speed up UVing portions of your mesh.
When working in MODO, many artists prefer to use the
"Make Inactive Same as Active" option which will override all
settings of the Inactive Meshes options panel and all background item
layers will display as active meshes. In this video, I share an alternate display
setup that I use in my workflow.
This video introduces the Set Reference System feature which
is a quick way to switch between local and world space freeing you from resetting
an item's transform values every time you want to edit the mesh at the origin.
There are several ways to model an all-quad internal hex
shape in a subd mesh and I thought I'd use this video to showcase some of the powerful
modeling tools in MODO that make light work of this modeling task.
This video is a
quick introduction to the Sketch Extrude Tool in MODO. The Sketch Extrude tool enables
you to extrude selected polygons by drawing the path of the extrusion in
the viewport. The polygon extrusion follows the movement of the mouse in real-time
as you draw in the viewport making the process extremely fast.
This video is a quick introduction to the Halftone Material
in MODO. The Halftone Material applies a user-defined pattern over the
diffuse color of a material, simulating the look of a low-fidelity image
printed in a newspaper or magazine.
This video take a quick look at Incidence Angle in MODO. Incidence
Angle is the relative angle between the camera and the surface being evaluated and
is often used to simulate the Fresnel effect, velvet surfaces, cel shading, x-ray
effects and more.
MODO | Adding Hard
Surface Detail Using the Polystein Kit
Being able to create and use your own mesh presets with the
Polystein Creator Command, gives you the ability to automatically scale, orient
and stitch any type of pre-built SubD geometry into your mesh including hard
surface presets.
Although the kit ships with an array of presets and
additional free presets are released regularly, creating custom presets truly
unlocks the real power of this toolkit.
This video takes a quick look at using the Polystein Kit to
add Hard Surface detail to your models.
This quick video introduced the Lattice Effector. This powerful
deformation tool creates a cage made up of an array of locators that can be
individually positioned to deform the mesh it's attached to.
This video is a quick introduction to the Place and Align Drop
Action in MODO. Drop Actions use drag-and-drop actions directly in the 3D
viewport to define hierarchies and to preform item level transformations. The Place
and Align drop action positions the mesh item at the intersection of the mouse pointer
and the surface and the surface's normal direction determines its rotation.
Modo provides several functions to aid in the
navigation of the perspective viewport allowing you to navigate in 3D space more
efficiently. This video introduces six navigation tips to increase your
productivity and make working in MODO more enjoyable.
This video takes a quick look at the Tack Tool in MODO,
which enables you to quickly position and orient selected geometry to any active
geometry in the scene.
Polystein Kit | Kevin

MODO | Creating Hot
Keys for the Round Level Attribute When Using the Edge Bevel Tool
MODO gives you the
ability to create tool specific hot keys and a common request from users is how
to hot key the Round Level attribute for the Edge Bevel Tool. This video
quickly shows you how to set this up.
This video takes a
quick look at the Visible to Camera option for Environments in MODO, which
toggles whether the selected Environment is visible to the camera when
rendered. This powerful option allows for the environment to contribute to the
lighting of the scene while providing you with the ability to specify alternate
images or textures for the background in an additional environment item.
The Polystein kit works with custom user presets that have been created using the PolyStein Preset Creator tool. This video takes a quick look at the Polystein Preset Creator in the Polystein Kit for MODO.
This video is a quick introduction to Mesh Paint in MODO. Mesh Paint provides a quick way to apply mesh items or mesh instances onto the surface of another mesh item.
The Item List is a powerful
feature for selection, creation, deletion, and re-ordering of items and entire
scene files. It can also create parent
and child hierarchies, set visibility and more. This short video shares
a few handy tips to increase your efficiency while working with the item list
in MODO.

This video takes a quick look at setting up Fader Controls using
Channel Chimp for MODO and the Touch OSC Editor and App.
Channel Chimp lets you control Modo using external input
devices including: game controllers, touch screen tablets, smartphones, MIDI,
and OSC. In this video, I'll be using the Touch OSC Editor from Hexler to add a
fader control to drive the Round Level of the Edge Bevel tool in MODO.
It's recommended that you view the "How to use OSC to
create custom touchscreen interfaces for controlling channels in MODO"
video that comes with Channel Chimp before attempting to follow along with this
video.
