Hey guys, next year I plan on going into a 3D highschool and I'm wondering what laptops are good atm and what kind of price range I should expect. I will do some 3D modelling but probably not rendering, thanks a bunch !
Now days you can get Laptops with desktop grade GPUs which is really neat and new; so for modelling specifically, you'll want to be looking at a laptop with an nvidia GTX1060 or even higher if you're want. Go for a laptop which will last.
Personally, I have the last gen Alienware which has an i7 processor, 16GB Ram and a 970m which cost me around £1300 (which I kind of regret buying now) but I think you should be looking at a price range around 1000 to 1500 for something that will last.
If you're considering for rendering as well, then a good CPU would be good as most renderers require good processors (though now you have GPU renderers also: Octane and Redshift which will get you fast results)
Here are some website I recommend and which I have used:
Here you can customise your laptop and there is even the option for finance payment which you pay monthly (it's interest free for 1 year and then it's interest; so pay before the 1 year ends)

This one I haven't used but the prices look good enough for it specs:

There are also other companies: MSI, Chillblast etc.
I can't personally recommend you a laptop as I mostly use a desktop at home mainly and a laptop if I'm at uni.
I would look for:
15" screen (17" is also fine but just make sure it's portable and not a brick)
Good CPU and GPU
at least 16GB memory (ram)
at least 1TB or storage
I don't know, this is what I look for in a Laptop, other might agree or not. Hope this helps!
