Internships

Hey all, I'm currently enrolled in my second year of university and I hear the same topic arise over and over again amongst my peers: Internships. I've heard from a great deal of people that they're very important and more often than not lead to great networking/employment opportunities. My only problem is I'm not sure where to look. So far I've been crawling through Linkedin posts in the NYC area, but more often than not the internships are with advertising or multimedia graphic design groups. Are there any sites I should really be paying attention to? I'm a bit lost to be honest. Thanks.

What I remember from my internship research in Montreal is applying to every company I could find (mailing and/or giving them a call) - I basically was just following a list of Montreal Studios I had. Even if their website doesn't mention any intern positions ! They don't hire, well fine, but since you have them on the phone, ask them feedback about your application/portfolio, if you see they find it convincing, ask them to keep you in touch if they happen to have positions in the future, and also, ask them for places you could apply at! (Small studios often gave me tips and mail adress of their contacts in other studios, game industry is very small!)
To be short I'd say go to them don't wait on them
I'm also very new to the industry so maybe you'll want to take some perspective from what I'm saying and wait on some other answers but thats how it worked for me
