[Maya] Image Plane Behind Geo?

Is there any way to have an image plane behind the geo in the perspective camera view? I tried adjusting the image plane's Depth, and I also tried adding layers: image plane as layer1, geo as layer2), then placed the image plane layer under the geo layer, but that didn't work either. Does anyone know of a solution? Thank you.

Playing around with it just now, depth does seem to do what you're wanting it to. I'm able to make it intersect with my object, or not, by adjusting the depth.

For some reason depth does not move the image plane behind the object (It does for orthographic views), but not for perspective. I'm not sure what I can do.

I normally use the image plane of the front or side ortho view. You can make it viewable in all views. When you click on the image plan attributes you can adjust the Image Center to push and pull it across the axises.

This is what I get with the default settings when attaching an image plane to the camera, is this what you want?

Yes it is the effect I am looking for. However, I found that if I set the Depth to 5000 I am able to see the geo in front of the image plane.

I reckon scene scale and clipping planes would affect that, come to think of it.
