Adam Baldwin Bust [WIP]

Another user suggested to me I should do some basic studies and work on facial structure. I am going to track my progress for the bust on this thread. I picked Adam Baldwin as my subject. Here are some references I will be working from.

I wont have much time to work on him further today but hopefully ill be posting more progress pictures as I go.

I got some stuff done but I dont like how its turning out. I think I should draw on a reference to get a better idea of the shapes I want to get. I overlayed the head I created on top of the reference images I have and noticed some flaws. The mouth is too high and I have the shape wrong. The nose is too narrow. The eye and eyebrow are also misshapen. Gonna work toward getting these more accurate. Opinions?

Its coming along. I think the ears and hair might make it easier to see how off/close I am.

Made some tweaks and I like this better. Also got a suggestion to use a different mat for showing the model from Pwny3 in the Polycount discord Channel. 
I think im ready to add the hair and some details.

I think you should step down a few subdivision levels and really nail the shape of the overall skull etc before adding eyelids and ear detail etc. Likenesses are not easy, keep at it.

I would not escalate this to the next level until you get some basic anatomy down. Right now the face looks very generic and honestly nothing like Baldwin.

@Ged Okay, ill give that a shot. What about the skull doesnt seem correct? I thought I had a pretty good shape going but I guess i'm not seeing something. I brought the forehead up but not sure what else I should tweak. Can you elaborate on your comment?

Overlay his picture on top of your model and look

or even just overlay a side view and front view of a skull in photoshop and you will see where your sculpt is too squashed or stretched. Once youve got that basic shape defined then start to customise it to make it look like the actual guy good luck!

I think the eyebrows need work but I overlayed my image like @Ged and @skyline5gtr suggested and think I have a pretty good shape going, The cranium might need some tweeking as well.  Still needs work but I think its a step in the right direction.

That's much closer to a proper skull shape, now work on the major forms - cheekbones, eyebrows, chin shape etc, when those are looking good move on to medium sized details like creases and folds around mouth and eyes and ears and then finally move on to small details like wrinkles and skin details. Thats my advice! Good luck.

I spent the better part of last night studying the facial planes of the head and the underlying bone structure. Looking at my bust I think there are major flaws. I got some advice from Vertrucio on Discord that I should try making 10 different low division busts and see how they turn out. I like that idea and want to go in that direction. I decided to practice what I studied last night on the bust I currently have. Here is what I came up with.



I noticed the landmarks and key bone structures are much more prominent but starting from scratch gives me a chance to really nail down those structures from the beginning. Sorry for all the updates but I want to keep track of my progress and this thread is helping me keep motivated.
