Hey PC,

I`m suffering from period, when it is hard to model from concepts, do you know any good tutorials to buy, where you can be lead trough the process of making scene from sketches and/or concepts? I found myself, that while modelling some simple scene from sketch I`m getting lost among the order of necessary things should be made one after one. Will be grateful for any piece of advice and link.

With all respect
Wozner.

I would usualy start in photoshop, overlaying on a new layer with different colors a breakdown of the elements it can or should be split into. If you want to get more detailed in this stage you can mark what can be modelled using tiling mats and what needs to be individualy textured/baked. Then the next step is to make a very crude blockout from geometric shapes, either in modeling app or in a level editor using bsp. In this step i also work out the dimensions things need to fit in and that the composition will work with said dimensions. That's important because concepts can have weird perspectives and might not fit into modular grids as they are. So i make tweaks where necessary.

After that i model some low detailed greyscale placeholders for the elements and props. Once this all fits nicely it's just the regular workflow for making one asset after another. Usualy start with the bigger and most often reused pieces and small props last.

Can you give some more detail as to what your specific issue is?
If it's just what order to follow..  I'd say break it down like this is helpful. Not the best way, but it helps simplify things.
1- model basic shapes. Just get the proportions in there, dont try to make any detail, this can just be simple boxes/primitives, no colors/texture.
2- put basic shapes in their proper location and scale and set cameras and composition to match. This should end up matching the concept pictures composition but still with no detail.
3- pick which elements are important or nonimportant:  which elements in the concept are the most important. seperate those out and spent time putting in a lot of detail making them pretty
4- do the non-important pieces, make them pretty but don't worry as much as the other pieces
5- move on to texture/light now that you should have a full scene you can finalize it.

Hey guys, thanks for the tips and order. My issue, that when I model specific box (room) then I can concentrate on a tiny details of some specific pillar, and that gives dis balance to entire scene at the first stage, so that is my huge issue. Will do as Tomiajayi  suggested. Thanks =)
