@almighty_gir - Nice! I had no idea this was a thing. I grabbed it and it does help, thanks man!
@future-fiction - Totally agreed. I've been doing a lot more work on it trying to make it feel more like a saturated brass and less like actual gold which i was aiming for before. Copper/brass vibes gel more with the character than gold i feel, too blingy. Looking at last night's WIP this morning i think i still need to chill out it's reflectivity / saturation a little though .
@lotet - Thanks for the birthday wishes, and yeah bang on dude, just the first pass. I've been tinkering a lot since then
@Jordan Best - Man, that would be pretty sick. If i had more time i'd probably do something like that but at this point i think i'll just stick with what i have, kinda just want to get him wrapped up
Niiiice, is looking dope as fk! made a quick PO tweaking some colors, its kinda subtle but I promise its a Gif xD
basically just desaturated the whole thing and tinted the red eye-gems a tad more towards orange. also added a slight orange tone to the whole thing, but you should probably leave that to the PBR lighting :P
would also love to see some rust breaking up the noise here and there, kinda like this. and would be nice with some real thick mud on the boots and lower part of the cape as well, I get the feeling Engra isnt the type of guy that cleans his armor that often :P
@lotet Good ideas dude! I was going to throw a colour correction on at the end to kind of tie everything together yeah, bring it all into the warm spectrum. There is rust on him but i think i need to make it annihilate the roughness so it really shows up as being different, it's still kinda shiny. Maybe pull the metalness down a little too, but it doesn't blend too nice between the two. I'll definitely be adding dirt and grime and blood and shit later on too, good shout
I normally like to either have my characters posed before i texture or at least set them up while i'm still texturing them, so that's what i've been doing tonight. A few hours of concentrated effort. Still have all the accessories left to do, and some janky as fuck skinning to work out, but the basics are in! Pre-planning a lot of this stuff has paid off bigtime.
I worked on a few poses for him tonight along with a lot of fixes to the rough skinning from yesterday. Also decided to hop into substance and add a lot of extra weathering, grime and some gore to see how it looks. Painter chose some really interesting places to put those sploshes of blood, i'm actually pretty impressed. It's funny how different it looks in painter now compared to marmo
NOW were talking! looking good, the bronze/gold is looking much better, Still think the red eye-gems could use some tweaks, make them a tad more orange and maybe darker, are they metallic at all btw? I think something like This would work really good for them.
as for the blood, Im not really digging the blood in the face, but the rest is cool, maybe it should be darker though, a bit more dried up?
Hey tda amazing work! looking forward to more and the pose ! i would desatured the skin so it doesnt pop up that orange and totally agree with lotet the gems needs to be tune down a bit.
Haaa the blood! That was a much needed touch indeed! I agree with tierzilla, the skin looks a bit too saturated. Double check in Marmoset though, Substance Painter renders quite different as you noticed. Great work!
@tierzilla, @Abrvpt - thanks dudes! and not to worry, the orange skin appears quite desaturated inside marmoset, i've been balancing it all as i go
@lotet - feelin you on the blood, i need to go back over it with another pass
Since the last post i've added loads more stuff to the rig, lots of accessories and most notably
the pelt. That was a bit of a beast, pun intended. There's a laundry
list of things still left to do, lots of rigging and the textures still need a bunch of work etc. I'm off this weekend for a trip away but i've booked a few days off next week to make up for it haha! Anyway, here's how he's lookin after tonight's stream
Thanks so much guys, @lotet, @Intervain, @Mateus ! Magda you're one of my art heroes so this is a bit of a *squeeeee* moment haha!
Unfortunately i've been super busy over the past 2 weeks or so and i expect to be for a little while longer so he's on a tiny hiatus for now. So tantalizingly close to finishing too ! The animation i have planned is underway but still far too WIP to show. I've thrown out some WIP stuff for the alpha cards that i built on stream for his pelt, these have been tweaked a lot since this shot and i'm constantly noodling, but i would love feedback. Hair cards are still left to do, as are a few outstanding missing areas on the textures but other than those i'm pretty happy with how the textures have turned out. I'd say they're like 95% there. The metal finished up pretty much exactly how i wanted. 2048 has surprised me too with how nice it looks. I may go with that over 4096 for the final.
Here's some screenies. WIP fur and tex's here
Lil' closeup of the textures on these guys, (+marmo3 kicking butt)
So close to done. Animation is done. PFX are done. Textures are... well, i keep noodling Just the hair left to make and animate. I wasn't going to post another update until it was done, but here's one final WIP for the road.
He's finally done. This was by far and away my most ambitious project I've ever attempted. I'm spent haha, time for a little break! Huge thanks to everyone who commented, all the critiques, and everyone who came to chill on twitch, it all helped a huge amount. I doubt i would have seen this through without the feedback I got.
Jesus fking christ dude.. I dunno what to say, that is prob one of the best things Ive seen in a looong while. and the animations are looking amazing as well! reminds me of the Warcraft III campaign screen, but you know, with better graphics =P
Thanks so much guys! There are loads of things with this that I would do differently were i to do it again right now, most notably the hair i'm really not overly pleased with, and the fur pelt could definitely be better. But things I dislike aside, my biggest goal with this was to do the concept justice and I feel like I accomplished that so i'm super happy

I had the same feeling about the Warcraft III campaign menus. Nice!!!
So this has been a long time coming, marmoset viewer action! I've been tinkering on this all through January after I saw Artstation were increasing the filesize cap on marmoviewer files to 50Mb for Pro subs. To get under the old limit of 15mb i needed to go down to 1k textures and it just looked too gnarly so without that this would still just be sat on my computer. Anyways here he is in all his WebGL glory, enjoy!!
Finally I can spin around the model on my own and find all the texture seams and baking errors, mowahahaha... on a more serious note though, the viewer dosnt do it justice, but its cool to see the wireframes and all textures isolated. thank for sharing!
Wow this is great! You still managed to keep a bad ass look even with his proportions. Characters like this are hard to pull off because they tend to look whimsical and cartoon-ish but this is sweet. Keep up the good work!

Here's a quick snap taken last night after i finished for the evening. Kinda tempted to start the rigging soon, i'm itching to see him posed.

I made a fun little vid using toolbag 3's new animation stuff, you can catch that here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWTLEsCk1iA
And as always there's more pics on Artstation - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/z6yN6
congrats!!
You nailed it! Amazing, love the animation as well, and all those nights on Twitch were a joy as well seeing this come to life. Cheers!.
Now what to make next? haha
Awesome! Awesome presentation too!
