As a suggestion, i think the black metal closer to the feet could stand to be darker to contrast the top of the character. A positionally-based darkening, as it were.
Brian "Panda" Choi thanks, it's funny because I kept making it pretty dark and then backing it off, but that has been a suggestion on a few occasions now so I'll definitely be applying the feedback. Glad you like him!
Looking very nice! I think you could go a little heavier still with the gradients, like @lotet already showed in his paint-over. In particular, you could push the ambient occlusion on the arm wraps where they insert into the gauntlets. In fact, you could even see it as grubbiness rather than ambient occlusion, perhaps from sweating a lot in those gauntlets.
I also think that adding a heavier shadow on his face and neck from the helmet would make him look more ominous, and it would help the eye glow to stand out more.
Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks again for all the comments and critique I've gotten on this guy. Here is what I ended up doing for my final shots. Hope you all like! More images including Marmoset Viewer file on my Artstation: Here
I'm not big on the cloud background in the presentation images, though. It's quite blurry looking. I think would look much better crisply painted, with visible brushstrokes. You could use the values and colors in the background to draw attention to parts of the character, using the brightest greens near the character's head, for instance. I would consider showing the construction shots without the background, actually. That would allow you to really custom-tailor the background to your beauty render.
You probably don't really want to work on this anymore at this point, but I still think it's worth pushing the final presentation further to make your character look his best!
@Wendy de Boer thanks a lot! I might play around with something like what you're suggesting cause that sounds like it could push that final shot a little more!
