Zbrush fibermesh: how to get larger planes?

Hello everyone,

When following the tutorial listed above (4R2 b version) it still uses the old 'flare' slider option instead of the newer 'width profile'. I'm trying to create some fur by creating planes with fibermesh and then adding a texture to them, but whenever i create these fibers tey're always extremely small. Even when i'm using a coverage of 5000 the fibers are still way too small.


In the tutorial however their fibers are almost 3 times as broad as mine and they're only using a coverage of 10. What's up with that? I noticed that when they were playing with the 'flare' option that the fibers got the result i was looking for, but in 4R7 this option is deprecated and replaced with 'width profile'. I've tried almost anything i can think of using this new feature, but i can't get a good result at all.

Is the mesh unified to ZB scale? Try scaling it down even if it is.

I tested this with the Zsphere Ztool so it should be unified. I also tried scaling a different model with deformation - size slider and it didn't change anything about the size of the planes.

Did you try maxing out the width Profile? This should double the width of the strips.

I suppose adjusting the width profile makes it acceptable. Even when it's set to the maximum value there is still quite a big difference between mine and the old fibermesh with the same settings though.

Your coverage is back down to 500. Set it higher again. I just tried on a default sphere and got the same results you are after from the tut image with coverage 2000.

I had the same problem but vcould get it almost the same for this one by setting coverage to max and width vurve to max. on the following tutorial though where the guiy makes a butterfly to be square, it seems we can't do this anymore: https://pixologic.com/zclassroom/lesson/textures-with-fibermesh

@christopheduron sorry for year-long bump but have you ever discovered how to get wider planes? I've been googling for hours and this is the only post I could find regarding the same issue.

A bit annoying that there are limits for the length and width.

This is an ancient thread but seeing as how some people have continued to look for this info, I'll share my own "fix"

If you bring the "coverage Variations" down to a minus number you can bring the Coverage down from the max (5000) and it will make things wider.
