[Portfolio Review] Weapons/Hard-surface stuff

Hey all,

I’ll keep this short. I’m looking for some feedback/angry rants on my portfolio - quality of work, site layout, load times, etc. Some of the pieces are a little older, so I’m afraid they could be pulling the quality down. Ideally, I’d like a minimum of 4 pieces, so if you have any suggestions on what to scrap – if any at all – let me know!

Everything is geared towards landing a position as a weapons/hard-surface artist.

Hi orlando. The only thing I would consider taken off is the medical pod not that its not good but compared to the rest it would be the weakest. By the way love the tutorial great job. :):)

Hi, some really nice work you got there :)

I agree about the medical pod not being up to scratch.
I would also remove the mafia scene, it looks like a max scanline render, and not in a good way, lighting is dull, and same with the way it is laid out.

Maybe move the raygun/guitar between one of the realistic weapons, nice getting some color in there.

Noticed you use 4k textures on at least 3 of your pieces, I can't remember ever using a 4k textures while working on actual games, it's not a big problem but probably something worth keeping in mind.

I also saw your tutorial, good work on that :)

Thanks guys! I've made some adjustments based on your feedback. I removed the pod and mafia scene. Pushed up the Raygun - although I left the M4 and Vector at the top as I feel they're my best pieces. I've also changed the colour scheme from green to white and tried to align everything!

As for the 4k textures, I've noticed that a number of artists use 4k for portfolio pieces (which is why I opted for 4k). Although I'd be happy to downscale to 2k if that's a better alternative.

Glad you like the tutorial too :)

If anyone has anything else to add please say.

Yeah, looks better now, the new color scheme as well :)
You don't need to downsize the textures, but just so that it doesn't come as a surprise when entering the industry.

Noticed the Contact tab does not go to your mail, it goes to mailto:live.co.uk, also not sure if it's needed, since you got your mail listed.

The phone number, shouldn't that say phone/mobile in front instead of contact?

And the personal skills on the resume, those kinda goes without saying, no need to list them, those things fit better in a cover letter.

Damn great portfolio, after the feedback you got I think it is a gorgeous portfolio. Much better renders than what I have, and easy navigation, great job!

Okay, so I've made some changes from your suggestions. I remember hearing Jon Jones mention the redundant 'contact' link on CrunchCast recently, but I forgot to sort that out. Everything else has been changed too! I appreciate you taking the time to look through!

And thanks Nuclear Angel, hopefully it's enough to land me a position :)
