Hi, Funky the Noob here.
I did a Mauser pistol recently and wasnt happy with it. The normalmap had some flaws, the texture was boring and the low poly was a little too high poly:
I really want to become better and get a more professional look for my models. So I decided to take the Blockout and start over again. And I am gonna stick with this until I am happy with it this time. I hope you guys can help me a little bit, i know your time is precious, but i would really appreciate it.
Thats the low poly so far. I think the topology is a bit messy, need to clean it up. Dont mind the trigger, forgot to remove the subsurf (modelling in Blender):
Thank you folks for your time.
Regards, Funky.

Also, really sit down and look at reference, videos of field stripping, and other artists attempts at the gun you are modeling.
You are missing the body and curves of various areas. The most outstanding offender is how blocky your pistol grip is.
I made the area of the pin, where the hammer strikes broader, and scaled the whole gun a little broader as well. Redid the barrel .
Could you tell which areas you meant, that are missing body and courves ?

Have you started the high poly? After you get this blockout down pat, start the High poly ASAP.
Thank you for your help, Its really helpful. I think next time i will start with the highpoly, that will make the workflow easier i feel...
I started texturing, gonna finish this up today. I did a bunch of stupid mistakes during modelling, mainly with the highpoly, but at least i learned quite a few things now. Gonna be better next time, thank you for your patience guys.
