"For hire" forums lacking activity

I've been looking through the "For Hire" sections of this forum, and noticed (like I've noticed pretty much everywhere nowadays) that there's no activity.

In particular, I'm wondering if there are voluntary opportunities going on for artists looking to bolster their resume, yet no matter where I look: nothing. 

Is there some sort of elusive part of the internet that deals with this, or have times really become this difficult for artists?

I think lately smaller and bigger teams look around artstation for people they are interested in and send them mails, I have seen a large increase in such requests recently.

Also bigger companies have started to promote a lot trough artstation as well

Yeah I've been on Artstation for a while now, it's probably the best place that I know of in terms of recruitment.

We encourage job posters and applicants to use the private messaging system to apply and to chat 1-on-1, rather than replying to job threads.

This keeps negotiations private as we feel they should be. That could be why you're not seeing much activity here.

Yep, I understand that, Eric. But what I'm looking at is the date of the most recent posts, and I think the latest was something like 2013 and 2010 previous to that. It's not a criticism of Polycount - more an observation of the current trends (or lack of) online recruitment of artists.

I moderate our jobs sections daily, I see lots of activity.

Aha, I think you might have been looking in the Archives section? That's where all the old job posts went to die. All the latest posts are in the Work Opportunities sections.

Yeah it's funny, Polycount is not really a great platform for job ads. It's a forum first and foremost. We added the work sections because people were clamoring for it. There are lots of options like Artella around though. More power to them all!

Also, once you have a decent portfolio you'll get such offers every now and then.
