Hello,
This is a subway level I'm making for a personal game project I'm working on.
I'm trying to achieve a mix between retro and modern games. It's not yet right but I got the feeling that I'm getting close to what I have in mind.
This is made inside Unity 5 and I'm using the standard metallic workflow plus many custom shaders I made.
I've fixed a texture size limit of 256x256 pixels for my env tilling texture, it's mostly the same for props. This may change in the future but results are good so far.
Hard surfaces type textures are hand painted inside photoshop. I first start by painting the normals (example below), then I use Quixels to get Occlusion and Cavity and finally I paint colors, dirt and rust when necessary.
Other surfaces such as concrete, dirt etc are mostly made of photo sources plus hand painted elements (dirt, rust) but I'm also using substance, it just depends on the complexity of the surface. Sometimes using photo sources is just fine.
I'll post my progress when I can and feel free to give feedbacks
.
Thanks !

Posting some progress.
Level is growing nicely, made a bunch of new textures and props and slowly replacing my placeholders assets.
Using substance for bricks and tiles is making life much more easier.
This may change in the future but a subway train is definitely on my props list .
And the wip normal texture below.
