Hey everyone,

since yesterday PSD CS6 crashes everytime I try to save. I thought it was caused by 3ds Max which was running simultanously. But closing Max and freeing the main memory didn't help. I found some adobe threads with the same problem (a few years ago) but no solution to it. Deleting the preferences didn't help as well. Somehow PSD created a new preference file but remembered the old settings.

well what old settings did it miraculously remember? did you not delete the correct preferences by any chance? also check where PS stores its temporary files. does the path still exist?

One solution I could find says that deleting the files named 'Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp' and 'Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp'  could help. After relaunching Photoshop should create a new prefs file and only got the standard settings. In my case there was only the 'Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp' file which I saved in another folder as a backup. After deleting the file and relauching PSD nothing changed and it crashed again while saving. I really don't know what's wrong. I haven't changed anything in the last weeks. No new drivers or updates.

I don't know what you mean with the existing path. When I relaunche PSD there are no files under 'open recent' if this is what you mean.

And I forgot to mention that I'm using Win7.

Thank you for your help :)

ok, for preferences i would try moving the entire folder 'Adobe Photoshop CS6' out of AppData/Roaming/Adobe. if that solves the issue then you can move your menu, action, hotkey customizaitons back in step by step.

and before you choose that nuclear option, check if toggling off <preferences>file handling -> save in background makes a difference. also if the path under <preferences>performance -> scratch disks is valid and there's space left on that drive.

worked without the nuclear option :) I turned off 'save in background' and it saved again. Do you have any ideas why this small checkbox causes such a problem? I've never changed it.

    Thank you very much :)

glad to hear. i have no idea why it would fail all of a sudden but it is known as a little problematic in the photoshop forums. i had some other problem to sort out recently and saw it mentioned.

perhaps some new program running on your system, monitoring things? could even be a windows update if you do those.
