Hey everyone, thanks for stopping by! My goal of this thread is to show the progression of my environment as I go along. I feel I'm off to a great start, but there's so much to learn and do. This is going to be my first full level creation inside UE so any tips, advice or band-aid ripping c&c are all welcomed and highly encouraged! Improvement is the whole point right :)

Created a bit of a mood board to give the general direction I'm going for. Haven't decided on the time of day yet, but I'm thinking ambitiously and might try going for three different shots (mid day/sunset/night).

Working on some foliage that I'll post one I get baked out. Here's one of the ground textures I'm getting close to done. Well, once I get it in engine will determine if I'm really done haha. My biggest dilemma I've run into is tiling the thing. My post here explains what I'm dealing with and what I've tried so any help would go a long ways! Haven't touched the roughness map yet btw.

I'll keep updating as I go

Looking good will keep an eye on this one looks. What engine you thinking of using?

How did you go about making that material there?

Edit: Never mind I missed the link to the other thread haha

I prefer using unreal I think it's easier and gives nicer results than unity.
You going to run it through world machine or the likes?

I've never really gotten into Unity. I cracked it open a few times, but by no means anything serious.

I actually gave terrain.party a try. You can export a height map from anywhere in the world with that. Unfortunately, every map was giving me really drastic peaks and valleys. I could just soften the dark spots in PS I suppose. Might give World Machine a try. I don't need anything too extreme. Just enough to get me started and then I'll make adjustments based on where my creek and cave go.

I need to do a rough sketch, but the idea is to have a jeep parked at the entrance to the cave coming through a semi cleared yet bumpy path. Then I'll have a torch light emitting from inside the cave as if the explorer has just gone in. This is shaping up to be mid-day to sunset lighting wise. I want to have enough going on 360 degrees so to get a few god render shots.
