Hey I was wondering if anybody could help me out here with this archway for the gryffindor common room. how would I get the texture to look like it does in the image below?
Im using a tiling texture for the wall but should i maybe be using dedicated textures for it?
here is mine just now
here is a ref from the game and from the actual thing

Then you can do whatever you want with it. Keep a lowpoly version that has enough shape, create a high poly sculpt out the stones, UW the Low poly, paint it with realistic textures and bake normal maps for the stones...or whatever. While you throw a good ol tiling texture on the wall.
im using substance designer for my materials although the texture is being warped just now is that because of the shape not being right?
Maybe easier but maybe not ending up looking as nice is using photoshop and projecting stones andto the arch the way they should (after you baked it out).
Iam afraid there is not really a magic way around this.
i mean there's no magic around this I believe. I don't even think straightening the arches UV island would do it, as you'd start getting weird warping, unless you've already straightened the arch piece out?
@mon246 Im doing this because i have a love of harry potter and wanted to do a room from Hogwarts, i recently went to the Warner bros studio and managed to take a lot of pictures of the room so i feel like i have a good chance of doing this pretty good
Cool! I am also a huge fan. I really loved the environments in the first three games and films. I would love to go to the Warner Bros studio! When you were there, by any chance were you in the room where they have lots of architectural plans for the set buildings? When I'm finished Hagrid's hut I hope to do a tribute to Hogsmeade and to Diagon Alley and have scoured the internet for clear Hogsmeade architectural drawings but couldn't find any.
BTW this is what I've got done on Hagrid's hut
unfortunately they are right at the end and i had taken over a thousand pictures so my battery's died just as i walked into that room sad times.
I have also started the boathouse from the later movies, will go back to it after i finish this coz i need to change a bunch of stuff.
@robochrish I thought that as well but when I check they where fine, I'm using open GL in substance
it appears that looking further into it they where inverted so i have switched them and made my directinal light static instead of stationary so i dont get the light on the side of the bricks. i was led to believe that unreal used open GL normal maps but it appears it direct X
here is what i have just now.
Also, a couple of mats/carpets on the floor would warm the place up a bit more.
When I was researching the types of materials online and at the Warner Bros studio it said that the hogwarts castle was built with red sandstone and natural stone with the natural stone being things like the ground and fireplaces so thats why I went with a slightly greyish natural stone for that part. Although I think I need to tile it a little more to make stones smaller.
Yea I haven't got to the carpets and stuff yet there will be a large worn out carpet in the middle of the floor. Still need to do the tapestry behind the camera as well
thanks
here is what i have for today i put a rug down, changed some lighting and put the rest of the tapestries up.
Thank you very much
It has a sort of fabric pattern along with a fuzzy Frasnel material but I can see if I can distinguish them a bit more.
I'm not totally sure about the lights design and what it uses to be honest I'm trying to stick to the films set design as close as I can and that's what it looks like but it does look gas powered with the piping and such

When a carpet is worn it tends to lose the strength in the threads used to create it, rather than having scratches on top of it. Does that make sense?
It's also important to make sure that you are going in the direction of the threads, so straight across side to side, or top to bottom but not diagonally.
I hope this makes sense
I will try work on the rug as well
@Ged in the actual room it is much bigger than what I have but I thought it looked odd so made it a bit smaller and there will be a lot of furniture covering it really so I don't think it will be that big of a problem but I can revisit it once the furniture is down. With the frames I still have to make the chains that they hang from so they won't be floating
Thanks everyone for the comments
here is what i have just now like i said not too much more but the fireplace is done.
