Hey I thought I would try and start a few material studies to get some of my texturing down for a future project. I am making this thread just to get advice and further my texturing skills, any input you guys have would be awesome.
Hi, it's a good start, but really poor in details ; it's create with photoshop and rendering with marmoset ?
it was made in Substance designer, I am just curious what type of details more color variation, spec breakup, if you could be specific that would awesome?
The second one looks like a very zoomed in look at wood. I wouls suggest not having the texture so zoomed in so that you will get a little more veriance in the wood grain and flow. Alsi if you are going for a worn/well used wood perhaps smoothing out some of the peaks.

Your picture are a good exemple. When i'm work with Designer, i'm create 3 "details passe", near - mid - and far. Near > a micro detail, like a hole or scratches. Mid > for stone or wood, adding a moss/lichen Far > a huge map to adding a normal/height variation.

Something like this
Near > a micro detail, like a hole or scratches.
Mid > for stone or wood, adding a moss/lichen
Far > a huge map to adding a normal/height variation.
