Looking for technical advice for low poly xenomorph alien

I'm working in Maya 2016 and I started it a few days ago. Im not sure if I should just scrap it and start over. There is too much problem geometry around the shoulders and I'm running out of ideas on how to clean it up. Has anyone here modeled one of these before? I've seen beautifully done 3D models of Alien and Predator on the web and I'd like to make my own. I've been searching for mesh/geometry examples to point me in the right direction. I'd very much appreciate some advice on how to start the model, mostly the torso and shoulder area. Any tutorials would also be greatly appreciated.

    maybe show what you've got so far? start by blocking out the main shapes with simple low-res primitives like cylinders and boxes then figure out how they should interconnect and gradually move onto modeling finer details.
