I have been using color ID maps for Quixel Suite forever. I am wondering with Quixel Suite 2 can you not use a color map and assign different elements materials by point and click? This would save time baking a color map out, so I am curious of the answer.

You can't exactly add materials by pointing and clicking, but you can add materials in a few ways without color IDs:

A] 3D paint with DynaMask to apply materials to specific areas.

B] Create a face selection, convert that to a solid white UV overlay, export to Photoshop, copy it, paste it into DynaMask's Paint Mask in Photoshop feature.

C] Use DynaMask to apply materials to curvature, object space direction, etc.

Using color IDs is most similar to method B and will allow for easier masking.
