I'd love to see Roland's! Man I really love the rendering style for these illustrations! Would love to have a gumroad process video on how these were done! =]
out of curiosity @stoofoo , is there a reason the shading ramp in the model shots above is nice and crisp, but in the gameplay it seems you guys went with something with a slight falloff? (I prefer the crisp ramp)
It's actually the exact same ramp. Older gameplay has a hack in it that gave a world vertical highlight in addition to the light direction doing the cutout which maybe looked like it was stepped? It had to be done since the diffuselighting side would not get a cutout --which resulted in the shadow side not having the cutout at all. We recently removed all that stuff and it's only one ramp lerping the 2 diffuse textures whether you are in shadow or not.
Its sooo hard to pick a favorite amongst the all these incredible designs...but my vote goes to my girl Aisling. Something about an oversized jacket that looks like a fluffy dress...just so unique & badass.
Just discovered this, and it's the closest thing I've seen to my favorite art style for a really long time, the character design is off the charts and the execution spot on. Amazing, I'm completely in love! Will definitely be following this thread, so far my favorite is Mozu and Aisling.
I m interested in the ramp texture that apply into your character . May I ask if the set up is 80 percent of the black color apply in the ramp texture ?
In other word 80 percent of black color and 20 percent of white color
Thank you all for the amazing art dump! Gigantic's style and art direction was absolutely incredible, and it's great to see so much great work from the artists involved!
