Started working on a side project and decided to make an X-Wing. I'm modeling in Maya and plan on using Substance Designer and Painter to texture it when done. I would love feedback and critiques as I work on it, so I can make improvements as needed. Thanks in advance!

Hey,  I like your work so far, you seem to have the shape down pretty well, i noticed you have a lot of edges in faces in areas that may not need so may.  Particularly around the small pieces on the engines on the S-Foils and on the wings in general.  You could accomplish the same effect with less edge loops pretty easily from what I'm seeing if you remove some of them and smooth the existing edges.  A spot that you could really get away with this, is around the blaster part of the wing, it looks like you have a lot of geometry there around the thinner rounded tips of the weapons.  Overall though, good work so far, I just wasn't sure if you were planning on working this model with a budget for some sort of potential game engine use or if you were just going for a good high poly portfolio piece.

    Good Job So Far!

Thank you so much for the feedback! It's nice to finally get a critique for this piece. My overall goal is to have a really good, high quality asset to show off in my portfolio. I appreciate what you brought up about the amount of edge loops, and I will definitely apply those methods in the future for in-game models. This is my first attempt at a model this complex, with so many integrated pieces, so I'm sure I'm not doing it the most "cost effective" way. Thanks again for the feedback though, as this is the first reply I've had.

No problem, I'm a student working through a lot of this stuff also, and I definitely understand.  Modeling is a lot of fun, but there are just so many things to understand about it that only comes with experience.  It doesn't hurt to pass on info that I have learned in school and from other sources, for that is how we all get better!
