Hello everyone i have a question with CGI stuff. As you know, amazing things are done for films.
Do they really UVMap all this amazing models (Not talking about the ships, i'm talking of the environment).
And if i they do, what's the resolution of the texture map, it must be huge?
They paint all the environment assets, like each wall etc?
And the last one, they use normal maps for this kind of movies? Thanks everyone.
Some pics here to show what i mean:
Little Star Wars VII Spoilers down here.

If you have there some video that show the whole process to things like this i would really appreciate it!

Yep they probably UV everything, the thing is that there is SO MANY PEOPLE working on this kind of movie, just look at the end credit, usually everything is split, nobody is in charge on one big asset,

actually I ask the same question to Framestore's VFX supervisor and he shows me this breakdown ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X8BoSt_ANc ) and told me that is mostly Junior who are working on thoses little background assets,

For texturing resolution, they use multi-tile UV, ( probably using MARI ), for exemple for Chappie ( only the main robot ) they used 538 tile from 256 to 4096 each ( http://www.artofvfx.com/chappie-2/ )

    Hope I'm clear enought ^__^

Yeah on the full digital shots, it would be mapped but not with the games mentality of making efficient use of UVs etc. A lot of that is quick and dirty, automatic UV in many places and just brute force texture projection. Normal maps not so much though, mostly disp/bump. They'd be multiple UDIM though like said above, usually 100's of tiles.
