Horse Model Topology Critique Please.

Hello everyone,

I am a beginner at 3d modeling (3ds Max) and after watching and doing tons of video tutes, I have set myself a goal to model, texture & animate a horse for use in a MMO in UE4.

I have set my poly limit for the horse, including, forelock, mane and tail at under 3k.

I was horse mad as a kid and owned several horses for many decades..ugg giving my old age away here.
Googled a heap of quarter horses for my reference images and also images of other 3d horses models to get an idea for topology flow.

Is my topology looking ok and will it be suitable for animation?
Any constructive criticism very welcome.

Cheers,
Sherie

You need to take the time to get the edge flow looking a bit better, as an animator this would be a bit of challenge to get to deform the way it should, I have attached an example of decent topology, especially for the top of the legs. I am no modeler so no doubt someone else could go into more detail but this image should help at least a bit to understanding the edge flow involved.  A quick google will find you lots of reference regarding topology like this, you seem to be going pretty low poly so this one should help.

    Hi Rmunday,

thank you for the response. I think I see the flow you mention, its like loops at the top around the shoulder and thighs, so I will see what I can do to get that happing more.

    Cheers,
