Progress:

...............................................................................................................................................................
So I decided to start a new scene a couple of days ago, more learning needed etc. Also I'm building this in Modo instead of Maya, forcing myself to learn it basically. So there'll probably be a lot of dumb mistakes in this thread!

Right now I'm thinking I'm going to build a pretty regular looking art deco Gas station that could easily look straight out of the 50s but I also want to plug a very modern mech into it, I'm thinking the mech will be slightly animated and will look like it's powering a closed gas station somehow. It's a little inspired by fallout so I can't wait for my art book to arrive.
Mech Design so far:

My plan is to hopefully wrap this up within the next week or two before I get back to work so hopefully this thread will help with my motivation.
Feedback welcome!

It's pretty flat as is. You might consider rearranging things in the scene to get some nice foreground elements and background elements.
Right now the angles and perspective lead me right off the image as well. If you could try and push towards the sign through some additional color, guiding lines, and lighting I think it would work a lot better.
I know it's pretty damn early in the process to be giving crits like that but just thought I would pitch in some ideas before you got too far in.

I've baked down the legs for the Mech, I'll do the body when I'm happy with the High Poly for it, I've also messed with my composition slightly but I'll think about it more when I have more assets in the scene.
@GED Thankyou dude, If I find anything good I will link it with the video I add
This was the only real material I need to use the very basic matinee stuff I used: https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Matinee_Basics:_Creating_Your_First_Matinee_Sequence
A little fog would go a long ways to add depth in the scene. The first shot in your last post especially, but the others too. Rainy days are never crystal clear, not even when it's just a trickle. You could also try a little height fog, which is often better than pure depth fog.
The rain splashes are really noisy, and only seem to be showing up in the mid-ground.
The rain drops themselves seem too sharp and in-focus. Too frozen-in-time, which make the scene seem even more static. I'd suggest trying some motion blur, or using a pre-blurred particle texture.
This scene is really coming along great, love seeing it come together!
Good job on this so far !
I especially like the corn field shot.
I'd be curious to know a little more about it if you don't mind of course. Did you make your alphas [they're alphas right?] out of photography, or did you re-model a few leafs and baked it ?
Thanks

In the mean time, I added a temporary fence to tame that crazy corn!
@another caveman, I actually started out by building a sheet up multiple leaves and stalks from photo sources and then built the plant from those. Sloppy but it does the trick :P
what kind of polycounts/textures are in here?
can you post a 3d viewer version ?
