It I think largely because the navbar is over a fair amount of the banner, on desktop, the <body> element should ideally have a padding-top: 50px; so that so much of the banner isn't hidden. A result of having a fixed navbar with no padding on the body.
If you don't mind using stylish, I just updated my spacing tweaks. Moved the banner down from behind the navbar, and also slightly increased the height so you can see the art better.
I just checked it out... that looks good (whatever that is in Stylish). I'll save it for when we do formatting changes.

Not entirely sure what you mean by "whatever that is in Stylish"; but Stylish is pretty much just a plugin that allows you to inject css tweaks into websites.
