Hi guys! I made a 'pre-historic' tree some times ago for a group project assignment. The tree is made so that it hangs on the side of a rocky surface, which is why it's growing from the side instead from the bottom. Also, the intended point of view purpose is from above. We kind of aimed somewhere between realistic and toon looking visual, so both the poly-count and texture are both kept not too high nor too low. I'm looking for feedback to make it somewhat look nicer. Appreciate it!
This tree asset is looking really cool. I think you could definitely benefit from using a different shader on the model. Perhpas look into the types of half-lambert shaders that exist currently, or try and get a toon-look through PBR shading. The option to use normals and specularity/gloss maps from there will surely enhance your asset's looks! best of luck
Thanks for the advice! Yeah, the texture map is actually just albedo. I didn't actually add anything else for this render. I ended up going with the PBR shading as you suggested. Although I feel like I'm not too confident enough with the toon-look just yet, I tried adding some more texture map to add the realism detail a bit. So I added: Normal Map, Specular Map, Occlusion and Cavity Map. It actually ended up nicer! I guess compared with the previous one, this tree looks more 'alive' and not dull. I guess I should do some more experiment and add more maps to make it look better. I was actually afraid it might look too realistic, but I guess it still have its style!
