Hey everyone stumbled across this super useful tool today. It is speeding up my work flow with high poly meshes allot.
TL;DR of the video - Put highpoly mesh in. Low Poly mesh comes out after a few calculations. Also worth noting that you may need to do some very very minor clean up after the retopo.
After a quick test the results don't seem so different from Remesher, but maybe a bit faster and more interactive. Some areas that felt like they should have been simple have given me some weird results despite adding guides, and I've had holes appear in the mesh in some areas.
Pretty cool app anyways, not sure if it's so useful yet compared to what's already available. But it's free, so that's a big plus!
I did some quick testing with some of our photoscans, and here are the test results: http://puu.sh/lrcps/d252617a13.png http://puu.sh/lrdgA/dca85f4d7f.png As can be seen, IM is superior in preserving detail (especially hard edge detail and form!) and handling messy situations, while ZR is superior in having the ability to be adaptive, rather than uniform. Problem with ZR that IM solves quite well, is that silhouette gets "melted down". As of now, IM is usable on some of our photoscans (second example) where ZR results were unusable due to loosing to much form to "melting". We can get around the uniformity by decimating planar areas only, or manually combining two IM results at different levels of detail.
Hello, I have a problem with the "save", when I try to save in .obj, the obj never finish to save. If i wait 10min, the obj file is still saving and is about 2Go+. Did I fail something with the installation? My high poly is about 50k poly and the low is about 2k. I am using win7. I tried with other props and it seems to work. Strange !
PS : fixed, I export the mesh in 3dsmax before exporting to instant meshes and now it works.
I wanted to do a test with a point cloud. It looks like the .aln format supported is a point cloud format, but I never came across it and didn´t find any hint, how to convert to .aln.
I have some sample cloud files of a laser scan and they are .rcc / .rcs formats. Is there any way to load these into instant meshes?
Or maybe any idea, how to convert them into . aln?

Anyone have time to compare it with remesher from zbrush?

It seems like a good free alternative to auto-retop/zremesher.

im not able to get something useable...
