COMMON/IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS & BUGS

Below is a list of common suggestions or bugs we're seeing users report in this thread.

1. The front page won't load on mobile and the forum is loading a default Vanilla skin. The front page should be loading and the forum skin needs to be Polycount themed.
2. The site could use a pass on overall spacing of information, make things a bit tighter.
3. Quote button doesn't work.
4. The WYSIWYG editor can bust formatting at times, making it difficult to fix.
5. Many users used the 'New Posts' button from vBulletin and would like to see it back.
6. The notification window that pops up from the bottom left of the screen has white text on a whitebackground, making it illegible. 
7. There is some confusion over when and how threads get updated. Some users cannot tell where there posts are going when they reply, others have a hard time discerning if a thread is updated since they viewed it last when looking at the thread list. There is an icon indicating this, but it needs to be more apparent.
8. There is a missing step in the forum breadcrumb that is omitting the main Forum name. See here.
9. Emoticons are appearing in the Lightbox and when sending content to the front page. This shouldn't happen.
10. Many users are hoping for redirects from old forum links, as many of them have specific threads bookmarked that no longer work.
11. This member's name is all kinds of buggered.
12. Users reported that Facebook & Twitter links is broken. I need to investigate this bug for better details.
13. Clicking on a front-page news post that comes from a REPLY does not link to the reply, it links to the page it was posted on.
14. Bring back custom Polycount emoticons.
15. The website favicon is missing.
16. Users are reporting some poor performance happening in the WYSIWYG editor.

My main issues are the thick thread listings and the space between posts inside threads. It makes discussions feels a bit disconnected and it's annoying that I have to scroll so much.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet but I feel like emojis should be disabled always in code blocks. Also the text in code blocks is pretty hard to read (for me at least).

The ranks are still there if you click on your (or someone else's) profile at the top. However they are not in the forum itself, I am not sure if that is just temporary or to stay.

More small suggestions from the nitpick cave :

It's probably just a placebo effect, but i quite liked to see who did the last response in a thread in the overview, and when that response actually happened. Kinda gave you an idea on how "stale" a thread may be at the current point in time, if that makes any sense.

Granted the new "x new replies" system is kinda more streamlined and makes you check the thread regardless.

@gingerfreek  That's a known issue that will be addressed in the next wave of fixes.
@rebb Yeah I'd like it back, too. Once we've done bugs we'll work on formatting/design updates of the site.

Hi.

When trying to reply to topics on Chrome mobile, the "preview" "save draft" "post reply" buttons are no where to be seen. That was on Adroid, Zenfone 2.

It's very nice tho that when I open the thread on my PC, my reply was still there. Really neat. 1 problem tho is that the draft is still there even after I successfully replied to the thread.

By the way, do we not have "new posts" we can use to quickly view all threads with new activities anymore?

Now, I'm spammed and I'm eventually going to unsuscribe from my threads of interest...

Hey I would really like a color variation between posts that have been viewed/not viewed.
Much like the old version of PolyCount where un viewed/new posts were green and viewed posts were gray. It is hard for me to at a glance to see what posts I have looked at and what ones I have not (even though  there is a "new" button next to the new post).

Hey so I'm having some trouble over on the weekly substance thread where all the text on my first post appears to be getting smaller. I was going over the post looking for the problem, even a quick scrawl through the html but my skills in the area are rusty at best. I would greatly appreciate any help on fixing the matter as the text is getting impossible to read as I add a new week onto the contest.

@tejay Yeah there is a bug right now with formatting long threads, I've found. It's too easy for the text to get attached to a font setting. Would you mind helping me debug it?

Select the text you want to change, and hit this button:

Are any of those options highlighted? If so, can you hit the highlighted button, save your thread, and tell me if the affected font has changed?

@Adam : none of options are highlighted. But changing to one of the other types of format does fix the problem. Also not sure why but after saving the changes, adding format and then removing the html affecting that heading somehow fixed the problem....not sure why....

Havent been as active on polycount lately as I cant tell which threads Ive commented on in the past when Im browsing the forums, these used to be highlighted. Still dont know what to do about the 71 pages of "favorites" that I havent favorited haha. Hope its all coming along well. It does look nice

I'm not reading through all 9 pages so sorry if this has been mentioned before. I now receive a new email notification for every new comment on every subscribed thread, so my inbox is getting spammed with like 20 emails daily. I used to have it set to one summary email daily, or to never email twice in the same day about the same thread, or something along those lines. I can no longer find any email preference settings. Other than that, new format looks great. Thanks!
Edit: To clarify, there are settings at http://polycount.com/profile/preferences
but there is nothing there about *frequency* of emails. Also, I currently have both emails and popup *unchecked* for "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in," but I still get a new email for each of these, which are under my "favorited discussions" list.

@SeveredScion Click the notification icon (the bell), and click on the "Notification Preferences" at the top to change those settings.

Thanks @m4dcow but I forgot to mention that at first, then edited my original post. I have done that but it still doesn't include the settings I'm referring to. There's an option for picking email or pop-up for various  types of notifications, but there's no option for email frequency. Also, I currently have "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in" unchecked for both emails and pop-ups, but I still get an email for every new comment on a discussion that I'm subscribed to.

Okay, for some reason the site now logs me out after I close my browser, regardless whether I have "remember me" ticked or not.
On Firefox 42.0.

Is there a way for me to remove notifications from a specific thread? In this case, WAYWO, since I check it often anyway, so it's really just filling my notifications. I know you can add a particular thread to favourites to get updates, and I know you can turn off notifications for "Threads I've participated in", but I can't find a way to simply turn off notifications to a specific thread.

Is it possible to make this menu follow the window scrolling?

If you upload some pictures it becomes tedious to scroll all way up to insert quotes, links, etc.

I just noticed the full screen mode, that works really good, especially the white version.

1. When you're logged out there are no cues to tell you when a thread has been up dated. When you're logged in there's a "new" icon but if you're logged out the only guide you have is the post count or thread order. For a thread like WAYWO... this is useless. Since it's the most active sticky it's always pinned to the top of the forum regardless of whether there is a new reply or not, and the reply count is being abbreviated so you can't judge by that either.
   
   IIRC the old forum told you from the forum view that the post was last replied to X minutes ago... I think that's a lot more useful than knowing when the thread was originally posted. Don't know that anyone really cares about users who aren't logged in though.
   
   
2. I don't know what criteria is being used to determine what gets on the news page but I'm not a fan of it. Half the posts there are either complete junk (random replies in threads) or barely noteworthy. I know the old news page updates were very infrequent but this seems like quality has been sacrificed for quantity.
   
   
3. I'm sure I'll get used to it but I don't understand why the original posters avatar is on the right side while all subsequent avatars are placed on the left. It just seems inconsistent and would be better if all the avatars were on the right side (since having it on the right seems to fit the page formatting better anyway)
   
   
4. People should be locked out of creating new threads in the featured art forum (or maybe it should just be done away with entirely now that there's a front page to feature work?), there's random users posting art there.
   
   
5. Bulletted lists do not work in reply preview.

@sonicblue Yeah I have the same feedback for the editor. You can get around it by expanding the window to be fullscreen (the button on the far right). Though, if you add a URL to the your text it will go back to the normal editor window. Just hit the button again and you should be back to something workable.

@AtticusMars We're sharing information to the front page that we think people will enjoy. You don't enjoy some of it, and thats fine, but others will. If bullets break for you, add them manually per line rather than selecting a mass of text. It's a noted bug.

@AtticusMars Yes, the moderators et al are pushing the content to the page. We're pulling things out of threads to expose them to a wider audience. Eventually the content you see on the front page will be something the site curates automatically based on your preferences. For now its manual.

@adamAh my mistake, I assumed it was already automated.

Maybe too early to ask but how are you going to tailor it to user preferences? Are we gonna have to start using 'like' buttons ala tumblr?

@AtticusMars Likelihood is you'll subscribe to Tag and/or other Users and get fed that content automatically as it happens.

Also sorry; I would have softened my criticism if I'd realized it was still being curated by moderators. I'd just prefer to see less content coming from General Chat personally.

Also, since you mentioned, there's a way to clear the URL linking? If you add it before completing the whole sentence, all the text after the link will become the link itself.

Hello,

I literally can not embed an image through the image function. Whats the forum code for images ? [IMG] dosnt work anymore.
If I copy a link into the box for image links nothing happens. If I press enter to confirm it will simply post the reply but not embed the image.
It appears that there is some hidden MB or size restriction that seems to be way too low while not giving any kind of error?
I tried linking a 660 KB 1600x900 or so JPG. A different smaller image works.

I also just noticed that bolding will not bold in the preview text box but bold in the end afterall.
from the text colors, black should be replaced with white as it is not readable and white is missing.

back from holiday and whoa new layout!
Great job, I really like it!

BUT... I feel I have to scroll much more now (my scroll finger already hurts from working in Max).
The old layout felt more compact and fit easier on my old monitors here.
Any chance you can tweak your CSS a bit? At least for the post-list on the forums and decrease the entry height a bit?

yes, I put the url in the correct slot, I worked several times before.

The location is clearly embeddable i embedded plenty of those steam hosted images before on the old forums
If I try it right now it dosnt work neither. I just tried a smaller image from there that didnt work, so nothing size related

I just checked one of my old threads with images from the same hosting location and oddly there is one image missing (at least for me)
in this thread, while both of the big screenshots are from the steam workshop. I checked the other threads and that one image missing is a single case, all others work and are still displayed as usual.

On another note, is there a way to make a wordwrap ? My formatting looks like total crap all the time. It would be appreciated 
so much if it could make a word wrap at the end of your line instead of pasting it behind. If thats not possible, then some sort of
forum code would work too (or if there is one Id like to know) - In reddit you can just press double empty space and it does a wordwrap per example. The non 1:1 relation of the text input box and the final text makes it not easier.

Hm, makes sense, they worked previously however so I was confused. It is probably worth trying making it work for steam and potential others using a similar system still. 
Is your snipped 1:1 exact ? I just tried it by simply replacing your placeholder link and that didnt work out, I don't really know usual html structures maybe i missed something.

Sorry, I didn't know if HTML would get picked up even if I wasn't in HTML editing mode, so I put extra spaces.

Mh. It also fails under Windows IE 11 and Google Chrome here. So it's definitely not an outdated Firefox version that is the problem. This Latest Post "button" is no button anymore for me. Just plain text.

This "Latest Post" label is for the forum table. It's not the latest post button to search for the latest postings.

So the real problem is, where is the find latest post button?

Sometimes the edit text box on the iPhone bugs out and typing is disabled. 
I have to hit Save Draft, then tap the X on the popup, and then typing is enabled again.

Here's something that bothers me:

When I get a notification, It tells me <user> has done <action>. It isn't clear which part of the notification I should click on (all the text is the same until you mouse over it). Additionally, depending on where you click it takes you to different places:
1. Click user's icon it takes you to their profile
2. Click user's name it takes you to their profile
3. Click action it takes you to the action

I think it would make more sense clicking anywhere, including the background of the notification, took you to the action. I don't want to go to so and so's profile, I want to see what they did. See: Facebook notifications.

Additionally, when I get a PM, I get a notice in the PM window and also in the notifications window. PM's shouldn't notify anywhere other than the PM window. Its doubly useless, as it doesn't go to the PM when you click on it, it goes, yet again, to the user's profile.

In this thread I have 2 embedded images, clicking on them , the lightbox shows "image not found" still they are visible normally. Those are the not working steam images again however. Also the images do not link anymore.

@Tiles, you have to over with your mouse in the thread title (which is the bar itself), the replies number will become the LAST button you have to click to get to the latest reply.

That's the second time I had to uncheck "email" from the notification preferences.  It somehow rechecked itself and I got a mail for every What are you Working on 2015 post made today X(

Same here. Out of the blue, I started getting emails again. Did something get updated?

All my notifications had been changed to email as well. I am assuming they were changing things under the hood and something accidentally set everyone's default to receive an email for any type of notification.
