Hey does anybody know how to optimize Maya so high poly imports are possible?
Max doesn't seem to have a problem with 6m polygon imports yet Maya chokes at anything above 750k.
I have a pretty mediocre system, and I don't have problems until I go over 2 million or so; and even above that is doable, it just makes working in the scene slow and cumbersome.
I'm on an nVidia GeForce 550Ti, with 8gb of RAM, an i7, and a standard harddrive, and haven't had particular issue bringing in dense meshes, so I'm not quite sure what could be causing your problems, considering your machine is way better than mine. Drivers or compatibility maybe? I'm at a loss.
if you use zbrush you can decimate your high poly, that is what i always do when i want to import hi poly models to maya and you dont loose details at 20%
